Its 40 years since my first Glastonbury.
Apparently 1985 was the first quagmire year - it rained for 4 days non-stop. Except when Hugh Masakela was on on Sunday morning - in fact the sun even came out for this one ‘The Rainmaker’!
Just been reading a piece about how this track was the first time R&B vocals were put over a hip hop beat.
Just read a Joe Muggs post that reminded me how good this is
this is uplifting. Kathy Sledge singing on a London street ![]()
Absolutely skint but just pre-ordered this! Disoc is amazing, an investment for sure ![]()
Ha Leif Garrett tastefully reworked.
One of the first 7” singles I ever bought.
Love that
This is great!
Love the interview snippets, especially Peel chatting with Aphex (bumlicky). Haven’t heard that Dave Angel tune for a long time, all tracks that blew my mind at the time and shaped my musical taste forever
Girl From The North Country is back at The Old Vic and we couldn’t resist seeing it again last night. Once again completely blown away by one of the best things I’ve ever seen on a stage.
I’ve never really ‘got’ Dylan but in this context these songs really shine - we’ve had the original cast recording on repeat all morning.
See it if you can
Loved the original production. Is it same cast this time?
About half I reckon. The daughter (in that vid) is different, but the mad wife is the same and completely steals the show.
After hearing ‘Diamond Diary’ on The Bear S4, I have just given this a go, no idea about the film but digging the soundtrack:
Love that. Wonder if this had an influence on the Wild Bunch, their version of The Look of Love came out in 87 as well. It’s got that sample in there which I can’t place which Massive Attack used as well.
Ike’s Mood I think
Can recommend the film too, really good.
Nice one! Thanks for the tip - will see if I can track it down over the weekend ![]()
