We’re starting a dockside sunset sessions party this summer in cottage country Canada (our version of Cafe Del Mar…Experimental Beach, etc…) and we’re looking for some recommendations on chillout/magic hour edits or remixes of well-known tunes for our participants to jam out to.
One that’s dominated our sets the past few years is Fort Romeau’s F.T.R.M. edits of tracks like “In Your Eyes” (linked). Others include Todd Terje dub edits of Paul Simon, etc…we don’t want to limit to any particular decade or genre.
Hopefully, this thread helps us all discover some pure magic tunes that haven’t hit our radar yet! #IsItCanadianBalearic?
Strung that one out with another edit of the same tune at our Beak session the other week. I was worried it might over step the mark but it seemed to hit the spot. Got to say it was the discotecas version that gave me the courage to play the other edit out for the first time since i bought it a couple of years ago.
yes that’s the one. What do you reckon?
I bought it when i first heard it then bottled playing it ever until the discotecas came out two weeks ago.
I played that up until the just before the break/climax toward the end then mixed the new edit in. Seemed to work.
Will be hosting/bouncing around in the Muskoka area to start. Just finalizing the details. Lots of docktail parties always happening, but figured it’s time to get some proper soundtracking to accompany
First will be on Lake Joseph likely Canada Day weekend.
Ruf Dug also has a stellar version…more of a remix I guess? Head Band Dub has been a big favourite of mine since I listened to him open his set with this at Beat Hotel a couple years back.
Another top dig….Juan Maclean edit of exile’s “Kiss you all over”. There’s one from fellow DFA’er Brennan Green out there as well, but Juan manages to capture the inherent pelvis thrust in this version.
