Opinions/Arseholes!
The power of this technology for good or bad was highlighted to me a few years ago… Bear with me… Binley Mega Chippy in Coventry. Don’t get me wrong it ain’t a bad chippy, far from it. But someone put a TikTok or something on with a bit of a song praising said chippy and the whole thing went fucking bananas. Queues of cars, people crossing continents. Absolutely nuts. And then it just sort of receded again. Made me think if this sort of traffic can be created for something innocent like that then you get how it catches fire for horrible negative shit.
Similarly there’s a fish restaurant on Brighton seafront that’s always, always packed with Chinese tourists for the same reason
I mean, good for them, but…
There’s a bakery in South Queensferry (Dune) that’s been popular on the socials with the influencer types. It’s alright, nice baked goods. Queues right up the wazoo…
There’s another bakery about 25 metres across the street. It’s alright, nice baked goods. Totally empty.
But you know, getting the perfect shot of your fucking pain au chocolate innit? ![]()
Last time we were in Amsterdam we kept spotting people queuing in the street in a couple of areas. Assumed it was for clothes/trainers drop.
Fucking chips and truffle/cheese sauce ![]()
Reminds me of that off license ‘Wakey Wines’ I think, that was I similar thing a few years back. The guy was rinsing people for £100 a bottle of Prime when it was new/in demand.
He was doing club appearances etc. I once saw him at my local station on my commute one day and he was balking at the £6 sausage rolls (it’s a station, what do you expect). Oh the irony
Realized the same on my trip to Italy a few years ago. Wife wanted to visit the trending places recommended online (e.g. Anthony bourdain recs, places with long lines) and each of them were so ho-hum we thought Italy must be over-praised. But the one time we stopped in a cute overlook restaurant where we saw staff eating fresh pasta looking like a proper family, that was one of the best meals in my life. We stopped looking up recommendations after that.
Not that I need anymore reasons to be on the internet, but what do people spend their time on if not social media? I left it a couple years ago. I have an IG without the app for posting about upcoming sets/shows, and the browser version is so unusable it doesn’t hold me captive. But since finding this forum a couple weeks ago I’ve realized there must be places worth my attention still lurking around.
Bin all social media. Mental health 1 Far Right Nutters 0. Win win.
I use Reddit for politics, sport and environmental science, but pretty much a limited number of regular subs I’ve honed in on as in I don’t “browse” it. I can’t stand the news websites anymore, the way they layout their sites, convoluted clickbait headlines, the way they curate news, the popups, their weird obsessions with culture/gender wars or real estate or whatever their thing is.
I’m on youtube for recipes a fair bit.
I was subscribed to Ransom Note in their early days, the newsletter was pretty funny and low-fi. But it’s all been slicked up a bit as they’ve grown into whatever they are, so I unsubbed. Still end up on their site from time to time.
Not sure best place to put this as we dont have a disco arguements but if I hadnt done a check Id have missed this post from Victor Rosado who I dont follow
am writing this to address a long-standing issue regarding my personal property that I have attempted to resolve privately for years.
My name is Victor Rosado. Years ago, I had the privilege of working alongside Larry Levan at The Garage and later at The Choice. Following the closure of The Garage, Larry lost a significant portion of his record collection when it was sold from storage. Danny Krivit can verify that he purchased many of these records at the time. To ensure Larry could continue his work, I personally supplied the records for our sets throughout the duration of our collaboration.
Out of deep respect and appreciation for the mentorship and support Larry provided me, I wanted to assist him during a difficult time. I curated a collection of 300 records—specifically chosen because they were staples of Larry’s repertoire—purchased a trunk for them, and brought them to the club. I told him he was welcome to use these records for as long as he needed, with the sole expectation that they would eventually be returned to me.
Following Larry’s “Harmony Tour” of Japan with François Kevorkian, Larry tragically passed away. François returned from that tour with my collection in his possession. Since then, despite my repeated requests, François has refused to return these records. At one point, he claimed the records were intended for a museum—a claim that is logically and ethically flawed, as one cannot donate property that does not belong to them.
Several years later, I attempted to resolve this again. I proposed a compromise: if François felt so strongly that these records should remain in his possession, he could replace the 300 records with equivalent copies from his own extensive collection. He agreed to this arrangement; however, five years have passed, and the commitment remains unfulfilled. Most recently, he cited the cost of acquiring the records on Discogs as his justification for the delay.
It is disheartening that a peer who prides himself on high professional standards does not apply those same expectations to his own conduct. I have reached out to several prominent figures in our community to mediate, but have been met with apathy.
I am not asking for anything more than the return of my personal property. It is difficult to reconcile this behavior with the values of community and mutual respect that our scene claims to uphold. At this stage, I am forced to address this publicly because my direct attempts—phone calls and emails—have been ignored.
This post serves as a final public request for the return of my collection. I hope for a resolution that restores my property and upholds the professional integrity w
Possibly one for the “Has anyone got” thread?
Seriously though, murky business. Probably best left for them to sort it out between them.
Here’s someone worth following on Instagram. Of all the people I ever met in London, Jonny usually had all the italoafrocosmicelectrochicagodetroithouse you had never heard of. A total education whenever he played late nights in Brixton and Dalston and now he’s sharing each record with the world day by day
The Insta algorithm has definitely changed
Getting lots more political posts suggested even though I say don’t follow / turn off suggestions
Wow. FK… That seems a bit off to me…
There’s a settings button that allows you to turn off all political content, and it does actually work.
