The Social Media Dilemma

I don’t think the photo has ever been confirmed or denied.
Apparently, the DJ in the photo posted the picture on her social media in 2009, and it was shared by a few websites and an English tabloid newspaper.

Well, someone undoubtedly removed his horns so it’s definitely manipulated.

But at least they left his red eye in.

it’s not, but for a while i thought it was dj dazy (a house DJ from the portland/SF area). timeline-wise, it’d make sense, and she’s a great DJ so why wouldn’t zuck want to dance?

I feel a bit silly saying this here, but chilling somewhere nice with some headphones on, playing beautiful music, can be very nourishing!

Enjoy your upcoming holiday, friend.

Had strange dream last night. I was at some tech summit with uberlords Musk, Zuckerberg, Bezos et al and shouting at everyone but not being heard… and it was a bit James Bond with everyone standing around at equidistant consoles like villains in some symmetrically shaped chrome filled room, or people on 15 to 1… (but it stops there as I was awoken by missus for heavy snoring). Possibly subconsciously related to finally deleting my FB after 17 years?

I got one of my Insta accounts hacked a few weeks ago - I’m still not 100% sure how they managed to get in, but i have a feeling it was via a QR code I scanned in a hospital car park (this is, apparently, the latest method du jour). Anyway, because it was an Insta account, Meta in their wisdom decided to close down my Facebook account - 17 years worth of stuff - just gone, and with no real prospect of getting any of it back.

The worst bit - losing all the photos I’d accumulated, and the fact it happened the day before my debut track dropped.

The best bit, I didn’t actually give a flying fuck. Had that happened 5 years ago, it would have probably sent me spiralling into a dark depression.

I even considered not opening a new account, but decided it was still worth it to keep in touch with a few people and for Messenger - but that’s it.

I’m cured

Fuck Faceache, I nitzed it years ago. I’ve got a burner account for the local housing page, for parking/notices/freebies but that’s it. Whenever I do find myself looking at the stuff in my feed it just reinforces why I’m no longer on there, it’s all rose tinted walk down memory lane do you remember when Britain was Great AI bullshit. Fuck that.

Shit about your photos though :expressionless:

I actively deleted my FB forever last week after a long time growing increasingly unhappy with it. It was probably a bit rash (losing pix, music lists, local community groups and a few contacts I’ve probably lost for good) but I got to a point where I never knew what to post anymore or who was even reading and it felt akin to slipping out the back door at a party where I hadn’t spoken to anyone in hours.

I got rid of mine in 2019 and have never missed it. I have a burner account too (also to use the local info page only) and it’s incredible how despite following no pages other than that one the algorithm sends me endless groups with the common theme of “how Britain used to be great (read: white) and now it isn’t”. Facebook is fucking evil.

I haven’t had facebook or Twitter in about 4/5 years. I use instagram but may sack that one iff soon as the targeted ads etc just leave me cold. I think living eyes wide open and enjoying the world is my goal the way we used to.

I came of age when it was only available if you had a university e-mail - it was quite a bit of fun in the early days. I kept my account but deleted the app - I’ve actually gotten a few (classical) gigs from the locals music groups in the last few years. It’s funny to see what the algorithm throws at you when you don’t engage for weeks at a time.

Now i have far fewer ‘friends’ I actually get far few ads, bizarrely!

I’ve got 10k plus people in a group on FB and must admit I still can’t be bothered. Only use messenger these days and literally the only person that I speak to on that is Sean ALFOS. He’s the only person I know that uses it…

When Trump dies and Elon becomes Pres he’ll probably make it compulsory…

Edit: He actually can’t become President as he was born in South Africa, phew.
