Was Lynx Africa ‘a thing’ back then? I’d argue it was more the scent of Insignia, or perhaps YSL Jazz… ---

This was the big end of night one at the disco at Penmaenmawr in North Wales on the summer school trips from Liverpool. Pretty damn balearic listening again https://www.youtube.com/embed/FxSsol3Zd7k?feature=oembed&wmode=opaque ---

Jesus I’ve not thought about Kouros for probably 30 years. What a flashback, I used to smother myself in it as a teenager (and Paco Rabanne) ---

You may well be right… I was 13 in 86. More cumulative memories of comp.school years I guess… using at least half a can of something foul in advance of the disco! ---

The ‘84 disco in my neck of the woods was adorned with espedrilles, black baggy troosers and t-shirts with Chinese characters a la Breakdance. There was also a smattering of temporary hair dye - blue, red, green - worn by boys and girls alike. And studded gloves. Just the one mind. Never the pair. ---

Just looking these 80s bangers up, Kouros is still quite pricey. They must be due a comeback you’d think. ---

It’s also a Harvey tune. I think he played it in his comeback to the UK (in 2012?). ---

My missus and I slow danced to chris isaak wicked game in the makeshift cabin (log platform?) in the wood at one of the Lowlife festies. Sounded amazing. Possibly the only chemically-enhanced slow dance I ever took part in haha ---

In 2004, I took a year out from the rat race and spent a year surviving entirely off DJing in cocktail bars. On Weds I did The Grill Room at Cafe Royale, Thursdays the Tikki Bar in Notting Hill or Match Bar nr Oxford Circus, Fridays were The Player in Soho, Saturdays Salvador and Amanda in Covent Garden. Basically lived a semi nocturnal life. And it was quite weird but also fun. The Grill Room was amazing. Packed full of music industry types with a smattering of celebs and assorted ne’er do wells. Kylie was there a couple of times, and Bjork, and Tracy Emin asked for Bowie’s ‘Young Americans’ but I think I only had ‘Golden Years’. I got Sasha dancing to ‘Back In Black’ by AC/DC. The cocaine was flowing like wine… But my absolutely favourite memory of the Grill Room was playing this as the last tune and watching people slow dance. I’ll never forget it. I adore this song for making me feel like a clueless teenager every time I hear it.
