Until the hunger passed- couple celery sticks worth but that was only for the first few days until my appetite settled down.

Got my gait analysed last Friday at Run & Become in Pimlico - they do it visually as you run down the street, rather than on a treadmill (because that just means you’re bouncing up and down and not pushing forwards).

Tried and (briefly) tested six different pairs on their recommendation before pressing the button on some Hoka Arahi 8. Just about to give them their first proper test drive, (was far too wet and windy yesterday)!

I’d advise caution going full keto though… gave me gallstones!

The weight gain after stopping smoking is brutal! Managed to stop smoking after going to see a bearded hypnotist in Davenport who was in contact with a spirit guide (called Kai). But then I got bang into the biscuits and inevitably pulled the rip cord.

Finally sorted myself out in the last year. Your mileage may vary but these are my observations after tracking what’s actually worked for me:

- The human body is very adaptable - it quickly gets used to you not shovelling chocolate eclairs into your mouth like its the local sawmill.

- Our obsessive foodie culture is actually yet another thing that’s spiking your dopamine reward system. There’s a tiramisu hatch just opened in Manchester, FFS. Dieting/eating boring food is similar to ditching Insta in a way. Feels good, man.

-I never lose any weight on gym/exercise days. It just makes me hungry and I eat more. Probably doesn’t help that there’s an ace bakery next door to my gym.

- Doing 10,000 steps is also kind of inefficient when you think about it - takes hours and you burn a few hundred calories max. Half a croissant if you’re lucky. _Note: not a qualified nutritionist._

_-_ I lost all my weight while doing 10 hour days working from home, barely standing up all day. It really is calories in/out at the end of the day.

- Sadly, the Ocean Beach gym bros are right - it’s all about upping protein. Chicken breast/Greek yoghurt. Keeps you fuller longer and gets you off the carb rollercoaster. I draw the line at vests and whey powder though.

- Carbs rollercoaster = brief sugar high, followed by a crash, irritability, leading to craving more carbs. Empty wine gum packets. Much regret.

- Include other stuff that is low calorie/high bulk to keep you fuller longer (broccoli etc). Potatoes are surprisingly good for this. Big love to the Maris Pipers.

- Hunger is often fleeting/boredom. Distract yourself with something and it often disappears.

- Your body is carrying around roughly 60 days of food on you. The hunger voice is a drama queen.

- We’re all still going to die anyway etc.

Class man! Thing is I loved my Hokas when they were brand new and for a month or two but I feel like they don’t last nearly as long as I would expect. But let me know how you get on with them and your runs in general. My best advice is be super consistent even if on some days you only run for a km or two because skipping a day turns into a week then a month and before you know it you’re back to square one with zero fitness and hating every run until you’ve got a few under your belt

Funny you should say this one time Marshall Jefferson was playing, I had come straight from a long day working and I snuck a Doner kebab wrap in up my sleeve. Multiple people asked me for a bite so I shared the joy. Great night

Thanks mate. Yes, I hear you re, the consistency. I’m trying to run every 2 days, to allow my body time to recover. Managed 8k yesterday in 45mins - the furthest I’ve ever run - felt it in my knees this morning though! 🤣

This is going to be of no use to anyone but my 15 year old chihuaha was almost immobile and we got him on green lipped mussel extract and about 6 months later he’s moving like a puppy. Still a lazy git though.
