It felt like an outsider sort of thing, with it being 24hrs and a fairly high proportion of alcoholics amongst the workforce, lots of bottles of spirits in the dark rooms! Seemed to operate outside of society’s norms.

You can see it was very cloudy where we were too. It was sheer luck that there was a break just at the right moment. I wrote a sort of stream of consciousness account of the eclipse, trying to remember all the weird stuff that happened, like all the birds flying in to roost, the temperature drop, the thousands of camera flashes along the coastline, and it went dark!
