One of the first albums I bought was Incantations ‘Panpipes of the Andes’ which may have been inspired by my watch ‘Cities of Gold’.
Oh yeah we had the 12” of Incantation in our house. Must have been a massive hit.
I’ve been slowly adding bits to this over the last few years. Anyone born early 70s, fill your boots.
My mum used to have Terry Wogan’s Radio 2 show on in the morning. So over breakfast before school every day I absorbed practically every top 40 hit of the 70s, whether I was paying attention or not.
So when this comp came out I recognised almost every track even though I * knew * only a few. Proper time machine moment.
Some highlights:
Was a bit disappointed when i discovered they weren’t actually South American pygmies, but a couple of blokes from Belfast and Glasgow, later joined by the fella who went on to be in E-zee Posse, Ramp & Slacker
Noooooooooooooooo.
What??? They were very good on the pan pipes for a Scottish and Irish fella.
I grew up in a house with a metal loving older brother and an Indy kid older sister. He liked everything from Pink Floyd to Whitesnake. He bought me and AC/DC album for a birthday once when I was little - “what you don’t want it?? - I’ll have it then”. My sister loved the clash, the smiths and all sorts of stuff. She had better taste in hindsight. There was always music on. I got lucky with a Walkman for Christmas and I bought my first three cassettes which I really loved - The The ‘Infected’ (not sure why I bought that but I loved the a side and never played the b side), Kate Bush ‘The Whole Story’ and Prince ‘Parade’. Doing my paper round with these in my ears was a happy place…
