Oh Christ that’s reminded me of another thing I hate.
I may post it elsewhere .

Yeah right. Pics or it never happened.
i like to imagine that he always wears six pairs of calvin klein boxer briefs, all at the same time. just for the compression.
compression socks are just the bonus of touring spoils.
Ah Trojan takes me back to my NYC summers
Part of the high-end grading process involves slabbing — encapsulating a collectible like a card or comic book. Once a record is slabbed, it likely won’t be played again.
This is exactly what they do for comic books, you get it professionally graded and then you can never touch it again - it just becomes an object for trading.
It’s gross isn’t it?
Everything about this makes me want to
Exactly. I’m aware of it in comics and trading cards so it’s not a big leap to apply the concept to records. I just didn’t know it was a thing and it’s bloody awful obviously.
this is why we can’t have nice (VG+) things.
I hadn’t heard of Aoki prior to reading this, wish it would have stayed that way.
They somehow fail to mention that his dad owns the Benihana restaurant chain and his sister is a supermodel
He’s absolutely caked
Arguably it makes sense for trading cards (you can still look at them) (although trading cards themselves make no sense) and for super-rare museum-piece records, comic books etc. But you know it won’t ever stop there.
Steve Aoki contains multitudes
More than anything, though, Steve Aoki is an absolute whopper.
steve aoki is pretty much exactly why i respond with denial when someone i don’t know very well asks “hey aren’t you a dj?”
I could have posted the link in ‘what dont you get/light relief’ but this was it’s natural home and for bonus points he was already occupying the previous few posts👌
His taste in music is fucking shit so the idea of him as some curator/ preserver of musical artifacts is frankly laughable
Feel free to ‘slab’ as much stadium trance wank as you like Steve
“As Aoki showed host Geoff Wilson his record collection, they discussed how vinyl lacked a centralized grading system, unlike other collectibles. It seemed like the perfect venture for Aoki, who had deep knowledge of records and other hobby markets. Two years later, in partnership with Rob Martinez and Collector Archive Services, Audio Media Grading was born.”
Nobber!
