Another one from our Somerset sojourn this week. Obviously we changed it to Don’t go back to Yeovil.
I included a live version which I hadn’t seen just for interest and to add 80’s credentials via Stipe’s hair.
I noticed REM got a few plays on the soundtrack to the Bear 2. Always evocative and interesting to me anyway.
I’m not sure they put a foot wrong really Shiny Happy PeopIe being the exception to prove the rule. I wouldn’t reach for their music much at all nowadays but it cuts through whenever I hear any of it. This track is certainly melancholy, whether it’s pop is debatable. Country Pop maybe.

This was my wedding song!
Lots of family drama at the time.
Shotgun wedding.
Drank a bottle of Champagne on a bench outside the registry office. Got a passerby to take a photo. Hailed a cab and fucked off to the airport for the honeymoon. The whole thing cost about £50.
Still together. No regrets.
