The aim of this channel is to preserve the history of some of the amazing bootleg megamixes that were created in the late 70’s and 80’s. It will also act as an archive for the entire catalogue of megamixes and remixes of a select number of D.J.'s, whether they are legal or bootleg releases.
I consider the megamix to be a true artform and it’s something I’ve been collecting on vinyl since I was a teenager in the mid 80’s. I mainly collect bootlegs but also have a lot of legal and subscription service releases. I will share as many of them as YouTube’s copyright rules allow me to in the best quality that I can.
I have recorded all of the mixes on this channel myself from vinyl, cassette or CD’s that I own. I have edited the ones that were blocked by a YouTube copyright claim to remove the offending tracks. Every video on the channel is organised into playlists where mixes are grouped together by Record Label, Mixer or by Series.
I hope you enjoy the channel.
Francois K - X Medley
On the more commercial side of things, no self-respecting eurodance superstar went without a megamix in the early 90s. And they sold by the hundreds of thousands. I think Ben Liebrand spawned a monster there.
One of my faves that one.
Mine too
i used to love megamixes in the late 80s, was totally fascinated with the whole “how did they do that” aspect of it. a lot of the US remix services knocked them out.
i never liked playing them though, because they burned through too many songs that i was probably gonna use during the course of the night.
one night some dude brought in the hot tracks “prince mega-medley” and begged me to play it. it’s sort of terrible, totally put me off every playing something as silly as that again. it’s also fucking fourteen minutes long. i’m sure cameron paul had a great time doing it, but even the most hardcore of prince fans duck out about halfway through.
here it is - it’s a few hot tracks mixes and i think youtube queued it up to the right place. let’s see if it’s aged with any sort of grace.
