I love Gary Davies, he comes across as a proper sound dude on the radio, he should have been the replacement for Ken Bruce instead of Vernon Kay.
My gran lived near my secondary school so would go to her for ( an ace) dinner once a week & listen to him on R1 ( she had one of those radios size of a full amp which she’d play R2)
Tried to go on chart days
I bought this Hi Nrg classic ( on a HMD comp) age 15 after he played it every day
He comes across as a real music lover whereas some of his R1 contemporaries, like Bruno Brookes or Simon Bates, you got the sense they never really liked music. it was just a means to an end. Apparently he started as a club DJ in Manchester.
He’s also 69, so doing something right.

Gary was Balearic before them all, imho. The hair, the Ibiza residencies (I remember him playing at The Star Club on my first trip there in '89). Plus he was a regular at Amnesia and Ku.
Never really got the props he deserved at the time.
