What do eucalyptus trees, Balearic coastlines, sad sultry senoritas, bboys breakdancing, mullets, Phil Collins, singing 50’s houswives and Led Zeppelin have in common?

Was meant to post that in “What you watching”

Can anyone please tell me who originally said Balearic was “pop music that sounds good on e”? Struggling to find who said it.

Frank Tope I think.

I always thought it was Terry Farley, but Bill says it was Frank Tope, and he would know:

Is there any pop which is actually transformed by pills? I always took the view that a latent part of us was already predisposed to Chris Rea. And I guess a large part of it is also where you are and who you’re with. The chemicals can only do so much heavy lifting

Yes. Definitely Frank!

It’s just being ‘open’ isn’t it I guess? However you get there? The track taking precedence over the artist… whoever they are

That’s the way I see it anyway

“I went from listening to United by Throbbing Gristle to dancing in a field to Josephine by Chris Rea,” he recalled of 1988’s Second Summer of Love, “which gives you some idea what a powerful drug ecstasy is.”

Id say most people werent predispised to Chris Rea or Scareltt Fantastic (another example)

Just a cracking record.
