when I was wee my parents had loads of those rave compilations kicking about, âNow Thatâs What I Call A Hastily Compiled Cash Grab 93, Vol 6â etc and it was my first exposure to dance music (I was born in 1988, Iâm not as old as many of you). I thought clubbing (âdiscosâ) would be fun but raves scared me because they were bad places that were open all night where people took drugs and DIED TERRIBLE DEATHS as teachers drummed into us. So things like the intro of âAnasthasiaâ or the God-of-Hellfire sample from The Prodigy are things I associate with âscaryâ even though itâs complete nonsense lingering from bizarre childhood misunderstandings.
âInjected With A Poisonâ - great tune but why couldnât it be called something less threatening? I was a very precious child.
Saw Goblin live at the Concorde 2 in Brighton a few years back. An entertaining 2 hours of costume-enhanced, cinematic Italian prog rock with scenes from Dawn of the Dead on the screen behind.
Meanwhile, hereâs one of my fave John Carpenter bits. He stole the show at Primavera Sound 2016
Absolutely remember that sinister thread in music
Things like this didnât help

Also, I saw Shades of Rhythm doing a PA in a club and they were all dressed as Freddie Kruger
