Gimme More MAW

Bass Tone into “The Wanderer” by Romanthony @ Pure in Edinburgh, changed my molecular structure forever.

One of my most important and beloved mentors coordinated a lot of the biggest MAW stuff that flowed through the majors. When I was enduring the corporate hazing of making an album with a past-prime angry neo soul artists I ended up with a song that was screaming for MAW. I called said mentor and lo and behold several days letter Kenny Dope was sitting in my goddamn office. For about ten seconds it was awkward artist/suit who don’t know each other dynamic. Then. He turned his back to me and I was like FUCK he’s going to leave. Instead he was looking at the shelf full of mixtapes that I kept in there to drown out the FloRida songs that would waft down my hallway. He asked if he could check them out, I told him that he could check them out and if there was stuff he didn’t have he could grab it because they were dubs. I think he grabbed some red alert tapes, signed my copy of street player (!) and a week later sent me an entire box of records and a pallet of blank tapes. I never ever forgot that because I’ve been meeting my heroes since I was a teenager and frankly most of them suck. So big up to Kenny Dope and an even bigger big up to my guy Rich for facilitating a memory that won’t soon fade.

So much gold in here already… For the Kenny Do-Do-Dope Lowdown mix of this. Still a massive massive favourite record.

And then this one from 4:30 minutes in. Just makes my insides so happy. The build up to that whole section…

has there been a better production/vocalist pairing in house music than MAW/India?

@Doctorbrowncelray i hope you got those windows open already!

I’m 13 days away from my second dose of vaccine. I literally have a bag of records waiting by my front door as a reminder that I’ll be able to safely travel to my office soon. I might even fuck around and post the mix. Been a long year for a man with asthma (and everyone else).

A couple more the must be mentioned:

I’m not too familiar with many of MAW house productions but have always liked Kenny Dope’s hip hop edits/productions. This one is a fav from the mid 90’s when I first heard it.
