I love everything about that Daniele Patucchi track! Especially the artwork. Amazing, thanks for posting.
That’s it - thank you
Another one that breaks down in the middle! (to nothing more than a ticking clock). Italo New Wave thing from 1987, sung in English, with really prominent cello, bit of synth and this one track just inhabits a really nice and unusual space. Picked it up years ago as the sleeve looked amazing and it was mint.
Loving Nosila Teyom’s vocals on that Oozay track .
Not at all an experienced connoisseur or even much of a fan of whatever Italo is, but this came my way recently:
Highly recommended to those with my peculiar tastes and available for considerable fewer liros if you look around.
Not sure if Jonny comes on here, but he posted something interesting yesterday (if you don’t know him, he has long been one of the UK’s most ardent italo collectors with an encyclopaedic knowledge of obscure disco, cosmic, electro and beyond)
About a decade ago, while exploring the rich trove of 80s Italian cassette culture, I stumbled upon Trecentonovantuno Umbria—a regional compilation that introduced me to some incredible Italian synth bands, in particular the band Nengue. Their standout track combined lush synthesizers with Afro/cosmic disco vibes, anchored by the infectious rhythms of African Beat.
After reaching out to the band, they graciously shared an unreleased gem with me: their take on the iconic Los Niños del Parque by Liaisons Dangereuses. This version remained hidden until now, and it’s a testament to their ability to reimagine this cult classic through a distinctly Italian lens.
Adding fresh perspectives, Los Niños del Parque has undergone a creative re-edit by Bionda e Lupo, which I first heard played out in September at Sameheads. Safe to say, it’s already club-tested and guaranteed to turn heads on the dancefloor. Meanwhile, African Beat gets an expansive dub treatment by Andrei Rusu (Khidja), offering a hypnotic, dubbed-out reinterpretation that weaves new textures into its cosmic DNA.
This release captures a unique intersection of new wave synth, Afro, and cosmic influences—a testament to the enduring creativity of the Italian underground and some of the artists who continue to push these sounds forward.
