Sit it out for a bit, let things play out. Get signed off if need be down the line. Don’t chuck your income away .
I can’t get a doctor to sign me off. They also are discretionary if they are going to pay you sick or allow you days off for Holiday. The aforemention guy isn’t allowed to have more than a couple of days holiday or more than a day for berevment etc.
The operation stops without us, they are c**ts and I’ve worked for a few. I often fill the shoes of a dead or dying men who have been seen off by these companies.
I have a lead on a job and will be applying to many others.
Hope that goes good. The company sound a bunch of shitbags and in breach of HR law.
Hope the lead, or something else, comes off. They sound proper cunts.
It’s going to be tricky to get time off for job interviews.
I’ve noticed the screws have been turned considerably since they might know I’m on my arse financialy.
It’s fasinating from a physcological point of view the level of narcsism across the operation, I know they have to own me and break me to be satisfied. I’ve literally seen them licking their lips prior to making the weaker female staff cry. There’s a book here that never gets written.
My record gathering sorties have in a way connected me to playing music to people, although financialy it isn’t sustainable. It’s the one last thing I can cut out.
I have a great bittersweet story to put here when I can summon the energy. I’m going to try compose something which covers a plethora of emotions and covers the best of our collective worlds on TP.
It’s an effort to get to core priority of job applications, but when I have good news on that front the story will be written up.
That’s tough. I hate it when a company continues practising at the detriment to individuals who are going above and beyond, just because they know those individuals will do it. Unfortunately that sort of company will never change to make it better for the individuals in question because they simply don’t have to (unless that individual quits).
This all sounds incredibly fucked. Do you have a National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) or Occupational Safety and Health Association (OSHA) equivalent in the UK? In the US this would give you plenty of leverage against your employer.
I was guilty of that question when I first moved to London but grew resentful of how people used it to assert their superiority into a conversation so stopped asking it altogether.
People seem to do it less as they get older but you always get that one person who loves talking about their work and gruellingly dragging everyone else through a detailed analysis of their latest achievements.
I witnessed the most insane corporate dark abuse today in all my working days against my Senior Engineer (the guy on notice). I know this has happened 100 times before and is coming my way on a daily basis.
I’m on my arse, absolutely no resort but jumping ship as soon as I get an offer. I’m fearful of my physical health in these next few weeks and not cracking mentally.
I don’t think there is any recourse in this country. My free time is better spent doing job applications than anything like ACAS or seeing an employment law professional.
Off to the therapist in bit, nothing to see here, move along…
edit Thanks, i will spend some time looking into some legal stuff.
So sorry to hear this. Could you go on the sick and job search from a safe space for a bit?
They won’t pay sick. I will have to ring in sick for interviews as Holidays aren’t a thing now.
Christ sounds awful mate. Stay strong. Hope something better comes your way soon. Nothing more degrading than not feeling valued in the workplace.
It’s just about standard in the industries I work in.
I said in interview they would get two years out of me, absolutely knew how this would pan out from a walk round. I’d have left earlier if not for the split and associated trauma about a month into this job.
Sorry to hear you’re going through this, it sounds horrific and nobody should ever have to work for employers like this.
If you’re on a proper contract with them and a permanent employee they really have no choice but to pay you statutory sick pay. Even people on zero hours contracts can have some rights around SSP.
It’s worth considering making an emergency GP appointment first thing on Monday, calling in sick, and getting signed off. If you say you’re worried about your mental health and you feel too unwell to work, and that going to work would be harmful and you’re worried about what you might do to yourself if you had to go to work, there is no way a doctor won’t sign you off for at least two weeks. But ask them for a month.
Contact HR as soon as this has happened by email so it is all in writing.
If they attempt not to pay SSP there are loads of routes you can go down. There is no way they can just not pay sick pay to someone who is properly signed off work, and they will lose. If you’re going to leave anyway then at least make them pay you until you find a new job.
Some more info here which may be helpful.
That’s really helpful Jolyon. I do appreciate that excellent information. Holding it down for the time being.
Todays absolute Malevolence towards my co worker bought me to tears later on. It was instigated by my new boss and followed up by HR and the very top head of the company.
It sits worse with me than the physical assault that I have been on the wrong end of in another job.
I’ve handed my notice in via email, I’ve stated that I’m not having a conversation and no further discussion will be entered into. Fuck me, I’ve hit my limit of shit taken and I am fearful of my blood pressure issues and stress levels seeing me off. I went for a 18 mile bike ride first, steady but it was tough and I’ve put on a fair amount of mass.
I’ll probably have to loose my house and move into my sisters.
Marc Kets aka Casual you’re going to regret starting this thread…anyway if nothing else a problem shared and all that.
I don’t regret it. I think it’s healthy to lean on each other and get advice or just to get things out. Your work experience sounded abusive and i genuinely hope the next step is a positive/good one. It might a bit dippy but i always believe that no matter how rough things are that “this, too, shall pass”.
Best things for my mental health have been 30 minute walks at some point of the day, drinking loads of water and a little bit of creatine. The irony that a dab of white powder is all it takes to make me happy is not lost on me.
Just came across this reel on Instagram and it seemed relevant to share in this channel.
For those without Instagram - or can’t click the link:
Man in a car explains that every Wednesday he and his friends send each other a one-two minute “Wednesday Waffle” which is a short check in or how their week is, what they are planning. A way of keeping in touch, and also sharing.
Nice idea and good for their mental health I’m sure.
