Changing career/starting again

But they’ll all tell you they do when they prepare their seasonal menu, I’m sure.

I’ve sometimes been the c**t interviewing people from the other side of the desk.

It’s easy to think interviewers want to make it difficult for applicants but that’s not my experience - vacancy holders generally want applicants to perform to the best of their ability and will try to create an environment that allows them to

Recruiting is very tricky, its the worst part of my job and really stresses me out

I’d never had this before I made the leap to gainful employment at 51. It’s very nice I can tell you. Getting a monthly salary and holiday pay/sick pay is amazing to me. I’ve no regrets. I’ve gone from working for myself and probably looking out for myself too much, to working in a team in the public sector and joining a union. It helps that it’s a really nice team and to that end I know I’m very lucky.

My dad used to be CoW for an estate in Hampshire. He loved every minute of it. Congrats to you.

I’m mid 50s in Senior Management for a large multi national education company. I hate it. My face doesn’t seem to fit anymore despite working my ass off 5 days a week (50+ hours) and some weekends. I’ve been there for nearly 20 years and my loyalty and patience are wearing thin.

I need to get back out and about. Being chained to a desk is no longer my jam.

My head is swimming with ideas, but I’d love to learn a new skill. Certainly interested in the electrician / renewable energy route for sure.

Exciting times ahead, with some trepidation.

Being on the east coast of Scotland our renewable industry here is booming. There’s offshore wind farms going up on a large scale as we speak and the demand for electricians is massive. Seems to be years of work. Worth looking into for sure.

Really enjoying the CoW job, I manage my own day, both in the office and out on jobs. Being council it is very much 37hours a week and not a minute more. Flexi time too. In fact I’m just about to leave for the day at 3pm.

it’s really grim out there at the moment (for people like me). Before redundancy I spent way too many years in same cushy role and lost touch with the job market. Have spent last year since redundancy trying to find remote freelance stuff and it’s so demoralising. if you’re overseas it’s even worse because you don’t qualify for benefits from anyone.
