At what point are you too old to DJ?

DJ Marcelle, must be in her 60’s now. Completely doing her own thing.

Yes, this is it. Some may see that and have differing reactions, but I will always want to interact with this. For lots of reasons.

I’m 71. Just moved to a new town, Eugene, OR. Planning and researching a DJ night (or three). There’s a lot of room for a new old approach. First, unpack the vinyl. Second, some practice. Never too old.

Old DJs never die. They just spin away.

Nice one :+1:
There’s hope for a 49yo youngster like myself then

Actually, no. You have to make it to 71.

But then the doors open before you.

So there is hope. Spread it around.

I’m not a DJ, but do have decks and I think a decent collection. Somehow got roped into playing at my local (very local) backstreet boozer last Saturday.
Slightly nervous based on the clientele being familiar/neighbours (and the shite they’ll sing along to on the jukebox!).
But played exactly what I wanted, whilst keeping it accessible so not upsetting anyone and seemed to go down very well.
I was playing Yvonne Archer- ain’t nobody (Jura mix) and a very drunk woman asked me to play ‘Black Velvet’:joy:

Edit- just as I’ve typed this I’ve got Richard Sen’s epic Paloma set on at work (nightshift) and he’s played a track I used on Saturday and linked on the forum in the past. What are the chances of that🤯

45 and my first public gig for my employers all-hands end of year party. Luckily, we have naming rights to the countries largest indoor arena, so that’s where it was and the sound system was excessive. Tick one off for the small claims thread.

Played a mix of disco, soul, boogie to start the night off. No one gave a damn about the music, but being disregarded just made me feel like a legitimate DJ :smiling_face_with_tear: I was just happy to hear the music i love looooud.

Have DJed for years. Fulfilled my first request a few weeks ago when someone VERY politely asked if it was okay to make requests, or if that’s not the thing to do. I said “I have a weird collection of music, I’m unlikely to have it, but you can always try”. They requested Sade and the listening bar I was playing at had a couple of Sade records in their collection on the shelves.
